This tasty and sweet treat is perfect for a dessert or just a snack. If you have more time, consider making the caramel sauce from scratch (it can be kept in the fridge for up to a month, allowing you to use it in other dishes too).

Ingredients for apple and caramel French toast
- 2 slices of thick bread (you can use any kind but we went with a crusty white)
- 2 medium eggs
- 30ml milk
- 1/2 sweet apple, thinly sliced
- 1/2 tspn cinnamon
- 3 tbspn caramel sauce
- 4 tspn unsalted butter
Instructions for making apple and caramel French toast
- Whisk the eggs, milk and cinnamon in a bowl until smooth
- Pour onto a plate or shallow bowl and set aside
- Add half of the butter to a pan and melt over medium-low heat
- Add the sliced apples and 2 tablespoons of caramel sauce
- Stir and cook until the apples are tender
- Remove the apples from the pan and turn the heat up to medium
- Add the rest of the butter to the pan and melt it
- Coat each side of the bread in the egg mixture then place in the pan
- Fry on each side until golden brown
- To serve, set the apples on top of the French toast and drizzle with caramel sauce
