Recipe: Meatloaf

Meatloaf has long been a favourite on the other side of the Atlantic. It's easy to prepare and ready in slightly over an hour, making it a perfect weekday dinner for those chilly evenings.

Recipe for meatloaf - serves 8

Ingredients for meatloaf

  • 455g ground beef
  • 455g ground pork
  • 225g shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 180ml water
  • 160g dry bread crumbs
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 30g dry onion soup mix
  • ground black pepper to taste

Instructions for making meatloaf

  1. Preheat the oven to 175C
  2. Combine the beef, pork, soup mix, eggs, bread crumbs, pepper and water in a large bowl
  3. Stir in about a quarter of the cheese and mix well
  4. Spread half the mixture into a loaf pan
  5. Spread the remaining cheese over the top
  6. Top with the remaining half of the meatloaf mixture
  7. Bake for 60 minutes
  8. Let the loaf cool for 10 minutes before serving
