It's surprisingly easy to make professional-looking sushi at home. You will, however, need a sushi mat and a few ingredients that you might not find in your local supermarket. Asian supermarkets are generally your best bet for getting what you need for homemade sushi.
Sushi salmon rolls - serves 5
Ingredients for sushi salmon rolls
- 1 packet nori squares
- 400g short-grain sushi rice, cooked and cooled
- wasabi paste
- 450g high quality, very fresh salmon fillet
- 1 cucumber, thinly sliced into strips
- 1 bunch spring onions, finely chopped
- soy sauce
Instructions for making sushi salmon rolls
- Place each square of nori flat onto a sushi rolling mat
- Place a layer of sushi rice onto the seaweed wrap and gently press flat
- Place a dab of wasabi paste along the rice
- Place a thin slice of salmon onto the rice
- Spread the strips of cucumber onto the salmon and add a sprinkling of spring onion
- Carefully roll the sushi up into a sausage shape and slice, trimming the ends
- Serve with bowls of soy sauce and extra wasabi
