What type of cooker is right for you?

Let’s face it, we all have to eat – so it helps to find the perfect cooker on which to do the job!

With so many sleek hobs on the market these days, it can be a bit daunting trying to find the most suitable one. But don’t worry, we have done the hard work for you – here are some key points to consider, which will help you decide.

There is currently a choice of gas, electric, or dual fuel appliances. Gas hobs are very easy to control as the flame quickly adjusts to any setting. However, a gas oven generally needs to be preheated to reach the required temperature before you can use it effectively.

On the other hand, electric hobs are slower to respond to change and can take a while to heat up. The ovens tend to be better at even heat distribution than their gas counterparts, though.

If you want the best of both worlds, plump for a dual fuel cooker – a gas hob and electric fan oven.

And if you are wondering what a double oven is, this is simply a set-up which allows you to cook two or more meals, at different settings, simultaneously. There is normally a fan oven at the bottom and oven/ grill at the top.

Now we’ve looked at function, let’s explore form! You can choose from a built-in, or integrated, oven which can blend in with your fitted kitchen with matching doors, for example. The good thing about this is that you can have your hob in one location and your oven in another.

Alternatively, a freestanding cooker can be easily moved around, but the hob sits on top of the oven.
